Elk jaar worden er ongeveer 150 schildpadden-nesten van drie verschillende soorten geteld. Grote groene murenen, roggen en indrukwekkende scholen vis worden eveneens regelmatig gespot, terwijl zeepaardjes en zeeduivels zich vakkundig verstoppen tussen de dichte koraalbossen. Het rif zelf betovert met zijn harde en zachte koralen, zeewaaiers, gorgonen en kleurrijke koker- en vatponsen.<\/p><p>Deze diversiteit wordt mogelijk gemaakt door het Bonaire National Marine Park, dat sinds 1979 wordt beschermd \u2014 een rif dat, in vergelijking met vele andere Caribische eilanden, opmerkelijk gezond en soortenrijk blijft.<\/p><p>Wanneer de weersomstandigheden het toelaten, Bonaire onderscheidt is de absolute vrijheid die het biedt tijdens het duiken: In plaats van je te houden aan vaste bootdienstregelingen, laad je je uitrusting in een huurauto, rij je naar de duiklocatie van je keuze en ga je het water in \u2014 dag en nacht, volgens je eigen schema.<\/p><p>De afstanden zijn kort: vanaf de Sonrisa ligt zelfs de verste duiklocatie op slechts 25 minuten
